Not something you buy

What the Metabolic Map is

The Map is the written plan the physician builds from your measurements. It says which tools you need, what to work on first, and what has to be protected while your body changes. This page explains what goes into it.

The Metabolic Map is not sold on its own and has no price of its own. The Metabolic Snapshot is the appointment where the measuring happens.

A written plan

Repeated, not one-off

Read by the physician

What gets measured

Five parts. Read together.

Not five results handed over one at a time. One picture of how your body is working.

A body scan

You stand on a scanner for a couple of minutes. It separates muscle from fat and shows where each one sits, which a bathroom scale cannot do. The machine is an InBody 580.

Breath testing, at rest

You breathe into a mask for a few minutes. It measures how much energy your body burns sitting still, rather than estimating it from your height and weight.

Breath testing, under exertion

The same measurement taken while you are working. This is the one that sets the practice apart, because almost no other practice in this market performs it, and because a metabolism can look unremarkable at rest and run badly the moment you push it. Both tests use a machine called PNOĒ.

A comprehensive blood panel

Wider than the panel you get at an annual physical, and ordered to describe how things are working rather than only to rule out disease.

The physician reads it and writes it up

Dr. Handy Lloyd looks at all of it together and writes down what to do first, in what order, and why. Not a report generated by software.

Why it repeats

A baseline nobody returns to is not a baseline. It is a receipt.

Measured. Read. Measured again.

At the start

Everything is measured before anything is prescribed. This is what every later result gets compared against.

At day 90

The same tests, run the same way, inside your pathway. If your numbers moved, the plan changes to match. If they did not move, the plan changes too.

What happens after

Your day 90 Map is what decides the next step: Sustain, a referral, or nothing further. You are told which, plainly.

Common questions

About the Metabolic Map

What it is, what it costs, and how it sits alongside the doctor you already have.

No. The Map is the written plan, so it has no price of its own. If you want to be measured without enrolling in a pathway, the Metabolic Snapshot is $500 and it is sold on its own.

A standard panel is built to rule out disease, and it is good at that. It cannot describe how your metabolism is working. This adds the body scan and the breath testing at rest and under exertion, then reads all of it together rather than one result at a time.

You breathe into a mask and the machine measures the air going in and out. From that it works out how much energy your body is burning, and what it is burning. It runs twice: once sitting still, and once while you are working hard.

The body scan and the breath testing are done at the Lincoln Park office, because they need the equipment. Blood work is done at Quest whenever suits you, and the visit where the physician goes through your results can be by video.

Yes, and we ask every patient to. This works alongside your regular care rather than replacing it.
