About the practice

A metabolic practice that measures before it prescribes.

Wellness by Design, MD is a physician-led metabolic and functional medicine practice in Lincoln Park, Chicago — cash pay, one physician, and a system that starts with measurement. In person and by telemedicine.

How this practice runs

Five rules. They decide what gets prescribed.

Not a values page. These are the working rules, and they are the reason some things get ordered here and other things get turned down.

Measurement over assumption

Nothing is prescribed from a questionnaire. The body scan and the breath testing come first, every time, including the times when the answer is that nothing needs prescribing.

Plain speech

You will hear what the research supports and where it is thin. No hedging, and no borrowed authority.

One price

A single number with the list of what is in it. Nothing itemized separately afterwards, and nothing added once you have committed. Medication and hormone products are quoted separately, and you are told before anything is ordered.

The physician does the work

One provider gives all the care. The person who reads your results is the person who sees you.

A willingness to say no

If measuring is not the right next step for you, or this is not the right practice, that is what you will be told. It is the most useful thing a paid opinion can be.

What the measuring is called

Your measurements become the Metabolic Map

A body scan, breath testing at rest and under exertion, a wide blood panel, and the physician writing up what it means. At the start, and again at day 90 inside your pathway.

The physician behind it

Normal is a reference range. It is not a finding.

Founder · Board Certified Internal Medicine · Lincoln Park, Chicago

This practice exists to close the distance between two sentences: your labs are normal, and you do not feel normal.

I am a board-certified internist. Regular medicine is built to find disease and it is good at that. It is not built to read a metabolic pattern, or a change in body composition, or a hormonal transition, or symptoms that do not yet add up to a diagnosis. A fifteen-minute reimbursed visit cannot hold that work. That is not a failure of any individual doctor.

So this practice measures instead. What your body is made of, what your metabolism does at rest and under exertion, and a panel wider than the one you get at a physical. At the start, and again at every checkpoint.

Then I read it, and I write you a Map: which tools you need, what to work on first, and what we have to protect as your body changes. Not a protocol. Not a trend.

The fair question

Is this real medicine, or is it wellness?

Who gives the care

A physician board certified in internal medicine, and one physician only. No rotating staff, and no coach standing between you and the person who read your results.

Where the advice comes from

Published medical research. Not an influencer protocol, and not a supplier's sales material.

What you will be told straight

What the evidence supports, and where it is thin. If something is popular and poorly backed, you will hear that instead of a sales answer.

What is not sold here

No drip menu. Nobody hands you twelve supplements at intake. Nothing goes into your plan because the practice happens to offer it.

How we talk about midlife

The years before a diagnosis have a direction. They do not stand still.

Reset Season

What actually changes

Your metabolism, your hormones, and your muscle shift through your forties and fifties. That is real, and it is not the same thing as decline.

Why we call it a season

A season has a start and an end, and what happens inside it shapes what follows. Waiting is a decision too, and it is usually the expensive one.

It is not a thing you buy

Reset Season has no price and nothing to add to a cart. It is how we describe the stretch of years you are in, and why measuring it now is worth more than measuring it later.

Before you book

What being a patient here is like.

The practical questions people ask on the phone, answered the same way here.

Adults in midlife whose blood tests read normal and whose symptoms are real. Tiredness that sleep does not fix, weight that will not move, a stall on a GLP-1, perimenopause and menopause changes, low energy and slow recovery in men, PCOS, and pre-diabetes.

Your first appointment is a Clarity Consult: thirty minutes with the physician, by video, with no tests. She works out whether measuring is worth doing for you and tells you what to start with. If it is, the next step is a Metabolic Snapshot.

The tests happen at the Lincoln Park office on North Clark Street, because the body scan and the breath testing need the equipment. Patients come from Lincoln Park and nearby, including Lakeview, Uptown, and Lincoln Square, and from the North Shore, including Evanston, Wilmette, Winnetka, and Glenview. After that, visits are by video anywhere in Illinois, Wisconsin, or Indiana, where Dr. Handy Lloyd is licensed.

Yes, and we require it. This works alongside your regular care. It does not replace it.

No. You pay the practice directly and no carrier is billed. FSA and HSA funds are accepted, and Klarna and Affirm can spread the cost monthly. You will know the full price before you book.

No. One physician gives the care, from the first measurement through every review.
